After closing the one month mark with a successful sparring session, I felt very confident going into week five. I made what I believe to be a classic mistake, by overestimating my abilities because of one exceptional performance. This is a mistake I will never make again… Read more »
Hello Albuquerque!! Another week is in the books and another huge weekend awaits us in MMA and Boxing. I have to mention first that we have a huge guest that will be IN STUDIO with us for the On the Mic with Mike Adams Show this Saturday @ 11 a.m. None other than Tom Atencio himself. The outspoken and very successful head of Affliction Clothing will join us to talk about everything MMA. Tune into 610 The Sports Animal Saturday morning for this awesome interview.
There is a lot going on in fight world in the next few months; including Saturday’s UFC 110, WEC 47 on March 6th, UFC on Versus, and a show at Yankee Stadium that doesn’t involve baseball. Yankee Stadium will feature a great prize fight when Yuri Foreman takes on Miguel Cotto on June 5th. Boxing hasn’t been to The House That Ruth Built since 1976. It should be an amazing event!
UFC has their latest installment this Saturday with UFC 110. Albuquerque’s own Keith Jardine will step back into the Octagon to take on Ryan Bader. Bader’s only chance to win this fight will be to drag Keith to the ground and cause damage on the mat. Jardine’s superior striking will give him a distinct advantage on the feet but he must be wary of Bader’s wrestling. Ultimately, Jardine’s unorthodox style will lead him to a TKO over the former ASU wrestler. Another Albuquerque trained fighter will be tested Saturday when Joe “Daddy” Stevenson mixes it up with George Sotiropoulos. Sotiropoulos has a four fight win streak leading up to this fight but faces a steep jump in competition with Stevenson. Unfortunately, I see Stevenson planting the Aussie on his back and using his GNP and BJJ to earn a decision victory. Michael Bisping looks to make up for his KO loss to Dan Henderson by taking on the seemingly ageless Wanderlei Silva. Silva is moving down to the middleweight division again and a big part of the outcome of this fight will be how his body handles the cut. Bispings chin is obviously suspect but one would think he would be more cautious after his last outing. If Silva’s gas tank can last, I see him stalking the Brit and finishing the fight in the third round. In our main event of the evening, we have a fight specifically intended to shed some light on the pecking order in the heavyweight division. Young sensation Cain Velasquez throws his name into the possible title picture by trading leather with the former Pride and now UFC juggernaut, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Velasquez earned this shot by amassing a 7-0 record with wins over Jake O’Brien, Ben Rothwell, and Cheick Kongo but this will by far be the biggest challenge of his career. The deciding factor in this contest will be where the fight takes place. I believe Cain can win this fight by out-brawling, not out-boxing, the more seasoned Nogueira. Should this fight get to the mat, however, Big Nog will use superior submissions to make it a short night for Velasquez.
March has plenty to offer with WEC 47 and UFC on Versus. Cards headlined by Bowles, Cruz, Vera, and Jones give us much to look forward to in the upcoming weeks. Check by next week as we discuss all the results from UFC 110 and all the latest MMA and Boxing news. Big thanks to Round One Coronado Center for their continued support in all we do.
To those reading this week’s post, I must begin by apologizing. Due to a laundry list of reasons, including an injury that I suffered in training, I did not post a Writer to Fighter update last week. I will do my best to ensure that this does not happen again.
Week Four:
I have officially entered the one month mark of my training. I finally feel a little more comfortable at San Jose, and I hit some big landmarks in weeks four and five.
The first significant change in my training camp came in the form of a new team member. Read more »

Ladies and Gentleman, what a weekend for combat sports!
This is my first blog for NewMexicoCage.com and I can’t think of a better time to start. After an amazing night of boxing on Friday, fight fans were treated to a great night of Strikeforce fights on Saturday. There were a few matchups that gave me pause but, overall, it was a good card. More on that later . . . Click here for more

Max Muscle of Rio Rancho has generously offered to take care of my nutrition plan for the remainder of my training.
Team Jackson’s member Rocky Ramirez, who works at Max Muscle, and operates the Fight City Fight Shop out of the same vicinity, will head up my diet, and monitor my weight throughout the duration of my training . . . click here for more
David “The Crow” Loiseau (18-9), who frequently trains at Jackson’s MMA, has recently secured a fight to help raise money for those affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti. Loiseau, whos family is from Haiti, will face off against Isidro Gonzales (16-13) on Feb. 27 at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Two dollars from every ticket sale will go to benefit the victims of the Hatian disaster.
After a win at Saturday night’s Strikeforce Event, Nick Diaz (21-7), wasted no time before calling out Team Jackson’s member Georges St. Pierre (19-2). “I want to fight St. Pierre,” Diaz told reporters after his victory over Marius Zaromskis (13-4) on Saturday. “That’s the one fight I’m talking about.”
The potential matchup between St. Pierre and Diaz is very unlikely, with GSP still on contract with the UFC, and Diaz set as the current Strikeforce Champion, but a public war of words can most likey be expected.
